Seven brands that blew our minds at Host Milano

Host Milano: a paradise for the food service community in the heart of Italy. For five days, suppliers and restaurateurs exchange links to collectively create the future of the industry. This year the bet includes three concepts: innovation, design and sustainability.

Mero Mole’s team, the Mexican Restaurant Association and MEPSA toured each hallway of the event and made a selection of brands based on their differentiation. In this list you will find suppliers of back of house equipment, furniture, tableware, pewter and one or two surprises that are worth exploring.

1. London Art: wallpaper with extravaganza

Website and Instagram

London Art is a studio specializing in wallpaper with designs by a community of artists. We recommend the exclusive designs of Marcel Wanders. Kudos for all the versatility and aesthetic reinterpretations that suddenly feel like renaissance and surrealism. From our point of view, the collections are rich in references that resemble all the way through Escher to Kanagawa.

2. Costa Group: known for places like Eataly

Website and Instagram

The energy of the Costa Group is similar to that of a Paolo Sorrentino film. Eclectic, colorful, chameleonic and Italian DNA; but most importantly, standardized in its implementation; Costa Group made the furniture for the food areas of Eataly in New York. A round of applause for representing Italy worldwide. We have already suggested a collaboration to make a Mexican-Italian concept. Can it be?

3. Cookplay: compostable dishes and natural design

Website and Instagram

Ana Roquero, originally from Bilbao, is the brain behind Cookplay: a line of table wear inspired by nature’s forms and minimalist oriental aesthetics. What we liked the most is its an ecological, disposable and 100% compostable line: Chikio.

4. Dalla Corte: the art of making coffee as a community (seriously)

Website and Instagram

Dalla Corte is more than a high-tech coffee machine: the brand’s premise is to create a global community of baristas. It was a pleasant surprise to meet Fabrizio Sención of PalReal Guadalajara as a representative of Dalla Corte in Mexico… No wonder we love PalReal coffee so much! Dalla Corte says: imagine you are a DJ and our coffee machines are your console. Kudos for the intervention of artist @aminaburloiu in an Evo2 machine exhibited at Host Milano.

5. Infiniti: feel at home in every corner of the world

Website and Instagram

Infiniti is an Italian furniture firm: tables, chairs and accessories. Mixing cultures and tearing down walls is part of his philosophy. Each year, the brand is inspired and has a presence in a different city in the world to create a collection as part of its project Sit Around The World. This year it was Paris; the previous year, Venice; and 2017, none other than the capital of tacos al pastor: Mexico City. Take a look at the complete range here.

6. Imagilights: Sketch lights in London

Website and Instagram

A classic fine dining restaurant at night is usually decorated with lights mounted on the tables to create a warm atmosphere. If you saw the recent movie The Irishmen or others like Goodfellas you will be able to identify this antique form of lighting. Well, what does that have to do with Host Milano? That the Imagilights group has brought to the table a reinterpretation of the classic fine dining lamp with a futuristic and revamped design that evokes the aesthetics of Stanley Kubrick and is exquisitely exploited in the interior design of the Michelin three-star restaurant: Lecture Room & Library in London’s Sketch.

7. Comas Partners: not all that shines is gold (it can be a fork too)

Website and Instagram

From Barcelona to the world (drumroll to the sound of Paco de Lucía) we present as a dessert: Comas Partners!: company focused on flatware of high design and functionality. Comas has alliances with schools such as the University of Barcelona to promote industrial design in the Horeca sector. We love the BCN line inspired by autumn with a bronze based colorimetry.
